What’s cooking?

The Kitchen is at the heart of any event at Mello View. We try our hardest to serve food that has been grown and reared on this very land. If not grown by us, we have a handful of trusted local suppliers that we work with. From our interactive cookery classes, to our supper clubs and private events, we love sharing new flavours with our guests, that really put a spotlight on British produce.

Farm & Garden

Mello View is set on five acres of Somerset hillside and is divided between paddocks, a large pond, two orchards, and a large terraced vegetable garden.

Each season we use as much of our home-grown produce as we possibly can. As the trees, plants and animals continue to mature, we hope that one day this will be all we use to stock our larder, cook for our supper clubs, classes, and retreats.

Interactive Cookery

A great gift, group activity or a treat for yourself, we offer a range of interactive cookery demonstrations. Watch and listen as Ed shows how to make the most of various dishes and techniques, then roll up your sleeves to try it yourself.

Places are limited to up to six people and run for about four hours and is rounded off by sitting down to eat the meal we’ve created together. We work at a pace suitable to everyone, with plenty of time for questions and curiosity.

Demonstrations may introduce you to skills such as curing, smoking, sausage making and butchery, or focus on a specific area of cooking such as gluten-, dairy- and refined sugar-free, vegan and vegetarian cooking. We love to design demonstrations that will indulge and develop your skills, so let us know if there is something in particular you’d like to learn about.

Outdoor Cooking

During the spring and summer months we offer the chance to learn more about outdoor cooking, off-grid living and self-sufficiency.

Learn to cook on our wood fired oven, barbecue and fire pit. Whether we go foraging the hedgerows, gathering from the vegetable patch or skinning, plucking and fire-building, be prepared to get your hands dirty. We advise wearing comfortable clothes and an apron.

Catering Events

We love catering for private events such as dinner parties, shoot lunches and weddings, either at Mello View, your home or another venue.

Ed will work with you to create the perfect menu to suit your event and budget, whether it’s a three course meal, a plated dinner, a family feast, a barbecue or tea party. We’ll take all the hard work off your hands from hiring any waiting or bar staff if needed, to the clean up afterwards. Prices vary according to the style and menu, so please get in contact and we can start planning your event!

Larder

Every year we produce our own charcuterie from the Mello View pigs.

A selection of produce from our land is always available to buy when you visit, including chorizo, sausages, chicken and duck eggs, fresh vegetables, homemade chutneys and jams.
